With over 31 years of dedicated service in the fire safety industry, Sandy Killbourn brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to our team. His distinguished career began as a local authority fire officer, where he spent 23 years on the front lines of fire safety management, shaping and safeguarding communities.
Sandy’s extensive experience spans from the rigorous compilation and inspection of fire certificates under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 to the critical auditing of Fire Risk Assessments mandated by the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. His deep understanding of fire safety is complemented by a BSc (Hons) degree in Fire Risk Engineering.
As a respected figure in the field, Sandy also served as the lead officer for the local fire department, where he collaborated closely with building standards verifiers to ensure that complex plans met stringent fire safety requirements. His commitment to excellence continues to drive our mission of ensuring the highest standards of fire safety across all our projects.

Meet Our Fire Risk Assessor
Derek Shanks is a former local authority fire officer with over 28 years of operational experience with Strathclyde Fire Service and, later, Scottish Fire & Rescue Services.
Derek has been working in the training department for 5 ½ years, training individuals to Fire Warden standards. He also worked as a junior

Derek Shanks is a former local authority fire officer with over 28 years of operational experience with Strathclyde Fire Service and, later, Scottish Fire & Rescue Services.
Derek has been working in the training department for 5 ½ years, training individuals to Fire Warden standards. He also worked as a junior officer on the front lines.
He has a BSc (Hons) degree in Fire Risk Engineering and is striving to re-establish his membership with the Institute of Fire Engineers (MIfireE). He is also a qualified surveyor, with a Diploma in Building Surveying.
